In this episode we’ll discuss some techniques and proper planning for including weapons in your preparedness plans. Understanding some basic laws and societal perspectives when going “all in” for loading up your self and the family. However we need to think about the weaponry we choose for our self defense, it needs to fit the billet of what we’re asking it to do. Living in a studio apartment with multiple ARs might be a little much. So in today’s discussion, let’s consider the penetration of the round, and the potential for injury beyond the intended target. Making sensible choices with our sensible weapon choices.
Time to shake out the mail bag.
Ed from Kentucky asks “you are always talking about not having weapons for home defense. Are you sure that’s the right message?”
Chris from Nevada adds, ” why are guns so popular in home defense preparedness scenarios?”
Tawnya from Texas asks “how can a smaller person defend themselves without a gun?”
Millie from Ohio asks “I’m quite older and I don’t feel safe without a firearm close by?”
Sue from Kansas brought up “what about the castle doctrine that has stood up in court for home defense?”
Those were some great questions. Today we’re going to talk about each of these topics plus ensuring that we have a clear picture of what defending the homestead looks like in this modern day world.
Greetings to all my friends (both new and old), to my wonderful family, my fellow Alaskans, and my fellow Americans, wherever you are. Welcome to the Alaska Outlaw podcast, I am the Alaska Outlaw, thank you so much for joining me today. In this episode I’d like to talk about a multi-layered defensive approach for your defensive strategy.
But, before we get after it today, I’d like to make sure that, for those of you who seek peace of mind and harmony with the world we find ourselves in today, or just need help in making sense of life, be sure to check out the Alaska Outlaw Forn-sidr podcast at http://forn-sidr.akoutlaw.com. After 30 years of spiritual searching and discovery, I have arrived home. Home to the ideology of of my ancestors. Home of a proud Germanic-Dane heritage. Some really good stuff for you there. [STORY]
I’d like to actually start this weeks show by saying that if you think you must have a weapon to be safe, or cool, then this show is not for you. If you bought a firearm “just in case”, then shoved it in a dresser drawer, where it was forgotten and neglected, but then expect to draw the weapon, disengage the safety mechanism, and effectively engage a threat, your logic is ridiculous. Adding weaponry to a home defense system should be something that is deliberate, and very thoughtfully planned out. Unfortunately the perceived need of a firearm for home defense has become so, expected, or hap-hazard. Throughout this pandemic here in the US the sales of firearms to first-time buyers has skyrocketed beyond the NRAs wildest dreams, however, many have simply added a firearm because they heard it was the thing to do. My fear is the ones that receive all the training they’ll ever get from the TV set are now in possession of a lethal weapon.
This scenario is what leads to others defense’s being damaged. When living in an apartment understanding the whole picture of owning a firearm, and/or discharging said firearm into a neighboring home or living space. This is where I question the inclusion of a firearm for home defense. A complete understanding of what is beyond your target.
So, let’s start our discussion by first identifying some basic defensive strategies without the use of firearms. There are obviously countless other weapon systems that can be deployed without the inclusion of a firearm. Our primary tool without the use of weapons is positioning of mechanisms to arrest forward momentum of a would-be attacker. In addition, our senses are our best tool.
When we talk about defense without weaponry, much of what we’re going to be focused on is our attention span. Most attacks happen we are not prepared, or paying attention. Overnight, or early mornings when our attention is really focused on getting going. If a would-be attacker notes that our face is buried in our technology, he knows he’s has the best chance of success. So, when we are talking about defense without weaponry, we need to be cognizant of our surroundings, by being aware we can be more aware of the potential and act before something happens.

ADDING WEAPONS
Let’s first talk about type of weapons, most will immediately go to the level of firearms, however, weapons have been around since man discovered the need for meat in their diet.

Adding weaponry to our defensive position adds a higher level of threat neutralization.
As always my friends, I am honored and humbled that you have chosen to spend this time listening to me. I deeply appreciate each and every one of you. Being prepared provides each of us with the confidence for successful survival. We mentioned before, and will certainly say again, that survival is a 90% mental task, but that 10% of physical resources is critically important.. By having a confidence and discipline, we can and will survive. Remember to be strong, be safe, and keep your head on a swivel… Peace.
